Judging from the trend of food industrial development in Taiwan, to invest outward especially towards Mainland China and to run integrated & diversified strategies seems to be the possible answers to regain the vitality of Food Industry in Taiwan. Based on industrial organization theories, this study appraises the short-term performance of Mainland-invested Taiwan Food Industry in the studied period(1988-1993). From the angles of business characters(a basic condition item), structure, conduct and performance, the purpose of this research attempts to investigate the structural change on Taiwan Food Industry and to investigate the strategic impact on the profitability. In addition, it will rephrase some advices about the future development of Taiwan Food Industry. By using a least squared estimation, the following variables are found important in affecting profit performance, they are the degree of diversification, the monetary amount of Mainland investment, the history of Mainland investment, the assets, the number of employees, the sales and the lag variable of debt-to-equity ratio respectively.
