Five gold(I) pyridine complexes have prepared and the stronger basicity ofthe 4-substituded pyridine ligand, the higher yield of the product. Thestructure styles of the five complexes are [Au(py)2] [AuCl2] (py= 4-picoline,4-tert- butylpyridine,4-dimetylamino- pyridine,4-phenylpyridine) and[Au(py)2]Cl (py=4-aminopyridine). On the basis of the element analysis data, wesuggest that there is one mole H2O in one mole [Au(4-amipy)2]Cl.H2O and thereason resulting in the above special structure maybe the forming of hydrogenbonding between the H2O and the amino group on 4-aminopyridine ligand. The UVabsorption spectrum of the five complexes are assigned as a intraligand π→π*transition and at high concentration(10-4M or 10-5M ), there is molecularassociation resulting from ring-ring interaction.
