由於國中生在作英語會話練習時,停頓、反覆、重疊的現象層出不窮,使
得學生無法流暢地對話。為了改進這些不流暢的會話現象,本篇論文將以
語用學的觀點仔細探討停頓、反覆、重疊在學生英語會話中的分佈狀況及
不同類型。接著再從心理語言學的觀點分析說話者本身的心理狀況,以便
了解這三種現象為何經常出現在學生英語會話中的真正原因。為了驗証所
使用的分析理論之正確與實用性,本文運用會話分析法,實際進行學生英
語會話資料之收集。從這些資料中分別統計出停頓的百分比及反覆、重疊
的出現頻率。經由分析結果,獲得二個重要的結果。第一是會話練習的人
數,以兩人的組合最有利於初學者的學習。第二則是男女學生的對話情形
,以女生較為順暢。最後,本文以溝通英語教學的理念,提出四點有助於
改進學生英語會話的對策。

Based on the pragmatic premises that linguistic variation and
pragmatic factors are related, the present study investigates
the interaction between the role of silence, repetition and
overlap in teaching and learning English conversation in junior
high school. During the English conversation practice,
silence, repetition and overlap are major disflunt phenomena
which hinder students from speaking fluently. The occurrence
of silence, repetition and overlap, on the one hand, is closely
related to presonal psychological process in talking, such as
thoughts planning and formulating, self-repairing, decision-
making, and so on. On the other hand, it is closely connected
with pragmatic actions. Speaking of the structure of
conversation, conversation is characterized by turn-taking,
inserting with silences, repetitions and overlaps between one
person speaking and another starting. All of them not only
represent what their real normal function in the speech strem
but also convev what people think and feel, or think and feel
others think and feel about cases, facts or turth. In order to
seek for what reason causes personal psychological and
pragmatic responses, 112 pieces of conversation recordings have
been collected through conversation analysis approach. From
the data, we find that the numbers in each group and the role
of sex play important roles to trigger student's psychological
and pragmatic responses. In this paper, the percentages of
silence, repetition and overlap will be calculated to see
whether the conversation is fluent or not. Through the
analysis and discussion of the collected data, four major
language learning problems are detected: unskillful at
operating turn-taking rules, misunderstood message, incorrect
grammatical structure, and incoherent topics and loosely
organized syntax. To aim directly at solving these problems,
possible language teaching and learning information is
