Abstract The pastes used for alumina powder extrusion include binder, plasticizer, lubricant, dispersant, and distilled water. After z-type kneading machine mixing, the mixture was extruded to form porous filter substrates. By fixing total binder content, various methylcellulose (A4C),hydroxypropyl methylcellulose(F4M),molecular weight 2000 ,6000 ,20000 of polyethylene glycol were used as binders,to evaluate the the effects on forming, lubrication, sintering density, compressive strength,pore diameter and porosity of porous specimens in order to obtain a better binder composition for extrusion. According to results,with a binder content of A4C:PEG 2000 =3:1 excellent properties of a porous filter substrate with 6.71MPa of compressive strength,51.24% of relative density,0.1962 m of pore diameter, and 40% porosity are obtained.
