The aim of this study is to understand sulfamethazine(SMT), sulfamonomethoxine(SMM) and sulfadimethoxine(SDM) residues in pork. According to the result of examination of 872 random sam- ples in a new slaughter plant of Taipei county during from Sep. 1995 to Mar. 1996, SMT, SMM and SDM residues (>0.100 PPM) posi- tive rate is 3.21 % by Fast Thin-Layer Chromatography (FTLC) and 2.98 %, by High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC). The co- rrelation coefficient R between FTLC and HPLC methods is 0.870 ( p<0.01). Average recovery rate of SMT, SMM, and SDM in pork is 67.60 %, 71.70 %, 62.60 %, respectively. The rate of positive residues for SMT is 96.15 %.To detect 176 samples of pork stands in Taipei county and Taipei city within Jun., Sep., Dec. of 1995 and Mar. of 1996, SMT, SMM, SDM residues positive ( >0.100 PPM ) rate is 5.70 % by FTLC method. Apparently, drug residue has a threat seriously to the safety of meat. So it is an important task to screen SMT,SMM and SDM residues in pork 'on-site' within the slaughter plant. To prevent sulfa drug residues from pork,we must implement prevention programs.
