In this paper, an active control system is posped to suppress vibration in turing operations. In the developed control system, the vibration signal of the cutting system is phase shifted, amplified, and then fed into a piezoelectric actuator to generate a piezoelectric force. The piezoelectric force is fed back to the cutting system to suppress the chatter vibration on system. It is shown that the piezoeletric force can be treated as the stiffness force or damping force relative to the for on the system, depending on the phase shifting of the vibration signal. Finally, an expermental model is established and verified to illustrate the posped control strategies.
