Abstract G raphite furnace atomic absorption spectrometry(GFAAS) used for metallicelement analysis are characterized by their high sensitivity and high selectivity. The refore,it is most appropriate to use a graphite furnace atomicabsorption spect rometer to analyse trace elements in the nickel-based super alloys. The purpose of this work was to establish the analytical methods which used a D2 backgro und corrector graphite furnace AAS to determine the aluminum and indium conten ts in nickel-base super alloys. Both Zeeman effect and D2 background corrector methods had been empolyed for aluminum determination and the results were comp ared.Several chemical modifiers have been tried in aluminum determination incl uding:ethylenediamine disodiumtetraacetate、silver nitrate、magnesium nitrate and diammonium hydrogen phosphate. The experiment results showed that the inter ference effect could be effectively reduced with diammonium hydrogen phosphat e modifier in aluminum. The detection limits were 9.64 pg and 21.7 pg for the Z eeman effect and D2 background corrector. In the indium determination, the exper imental results showed that the background absorption was effectively reduced with tartaric acid modifier but other chemical interference remained. The anal ytical resultsobtained with the proposed anion exchange methods closedly agree d with the certified values of the standard reference material of nickel-base super alloys. The recoveries for the obtainedresults were with the range of 90- 110% and C.V. were less that 10% .These showed the good accuracy and precision of the analytical results.
