Diffusion bonding is a joining method for materials. Simultaneously heating, pressing and controlling bonding parameters,we can bond materials under theirmelting points. Because materials are solids in the bonding process,it is called solid state bonding. In the bonding process, because of their differences in thermal, physical and mechanical properties, they will generate different reaction under the same condition. So it will affect the properties of welds even though remain many voids on the welding surface. Therefore,it is very important to control the bonding parameters.Because of remaining many defects or voids on the welding surface or inside the weld after diffusion bonding , they will become cracks when they sustained external forces.Furthermore, cracks will expand and welds will fracture. Therefore,it is very important to study the fracture toughness. In this research,we study diffusion bonding and fracture toughness about 304 stainless steel to kovar. We design a crack on the welding surface and use tensile testing to get corresponding datas. And further,we use SEM to observe fracture surfaces and welding surfaces. Furthermore,we observe elements separating in welds according to EPMA.We hope that we can get the better bonding parameters and relationships between external force, bonding length and bonding parameters to provide for researches in the future.
