In the further, the broadband networks based on ATM have to support multiple classes of services with widely different traffic characteristic and quality of services. In this thesis, we investigate service classification, service mapping and QoS allocation problems for multi-class ATM networks. The classification algorithm group the service with similar characteristic into classes. The classification results be used to build the service mapping table which is store in the node to speed up the call process procedure and simplify operation control and management. We proposed three schemes to perform QoS allocation and service mapping. Three QoS allocation schemes named equal allocation, compensation allocation and proportional allocation are consider. The simulation results show that for multi-class network, the compensation and proportional allocation schemes perform better than equal allocation scheme in both blocking probability and bandwidth requirements.
