A Honda 1600 c.c. engine coupled with Mitsubish turbocharger (MHITCO5-12) is used to study the engine and turbocharger performance. The test results show the engine torque and power increase 30%~40% compared to natural aspirated engine. Also, the emission of CO and HC is reduced significantly to about 20 % . However, due to the high temperature and pressure air when turbocharger at high speed, the heat transfer loss increases. Thus, for high speed turbocharger operation, the engine power is limited to 45 KW. Besides, a commercial code CFX 4.1 is used to analyze the turbocharger flow field. The 70,000 rpm was chosen to compare to numerical results with test data. However, due to the energy equation in CFX 4.1 does not valid in rotatingframe. Hence, the total temperature through the turbocharger does not increase or decrease. The current results can only be used to compare with test data qualitatively. The result from numerical gives an exit total pressure of 54393 Pa and compares with test data of 97637 Pa . The large difference between these two results needs further study.
