In recent years, a large number of structures are constructed on soft ground having high water contnts. In order to ensure the safety of structurs, deep lime mixing has frequently been used to improve engineering properties of the soft soils. This investigation uses the quicklime as the solidification agent. Unconfined compression tests and oedometer tests were conducted n soil-lime mixture speciments with various percents of added quicklime. Results of the unconfined compression tests showsed that the unconfined compression strength increased with the added amounts of quicklime. As fly ash was added to the soil-lime mixtures, the strength developed slowly at the beginning and increased significantly after 60 days of curing. Results of the oedometer tests showed that the addition of qucilime developed a preconsolidation pressure. At pressures smaller than this preconsolidation pressure, the secondary compression index, C α reduced as a result of the addition of quicklime. The preconsolidation pressure increased with added amounts of quicklime.
