SummaryThe research based on the established clinical diagnosis model, the clinical cases of NCHU veterinary teaching hospital during Oct. 1st, 1995 to Mar. 31st, 1997, the physical examination, the clinical laboratory examination, the thoracic radiography examination, the echocardiographic examination and the electrocardiographic examination were taken. According to the result of diagnosis, divide into 4 degrees. The 1st degree was mild infestation, the 2nd was moderate infestation the 3rd was severe infestation he 4th was caval syndrome. The cases of each degree were treated with symptomatic therapy, anthelmintic program and surgical operation.There were 71 cases totally diagnosed and examed. There were 47 cases treated, including symptomatic therapy, anthelmintic therapy and surgical operation. The 24 cases that were not treated including being send to local clinic, accompanied with other diseases, and haven't came back to the hospital. As the result, there were 30 cases treated successfully, the other 17 cases that were not treated successfully were all of the 3rd or the 4th degree. After analyzing the result, the animals of severe infestation, most of them accompanied with cardiopulmonary function failure, that couldn't complete the therapy. The animals of caval syndrome , the probability of successful treatment was higher in those of being treated in the early stage, and those animals the illness were delayed died of cardiopulmonary and hepatorenal failure .
