At http://www.math.nctu.edu.tw/~adaptopp, a unified adaptive system for finite element, finite volume, and boundary element computations is implemented on the World Wide Web(WWW) environment. The system is developed using the objectoriented programming(OOP) language C++ and is designed to be able to perform remote and interactive computing via a platform independent browser (e.g. Netscape) . After a brief history about the adaptive computation and WWW, the adaptive system is described in terms of its general procedure, classes hierarchy, applications, and WWW implementation. The use of WWW technologies, such as HTTP (hypertext transfer protocol) server, CGI (common gateway interface), and Java etc., in the implementation is also illustrated.
