In this study, we concentrate our attention on the real-time visualuation of multi-resolution terrain models and analysis of scene complexity management on a general PC platform. We implement an algorithm for real-time level-of-detail generation of terrain models using symmetric triangulation networks which was proposed by Lindstrom et al. [30]. In this study, we propose a quadtree data structure to satisfy the execution of the algorithm and the usage of used toolkit. We also modify the algorithm such that the algorithm is more suitable for a low-end personal computers. Based on the algorithm, we evaluate several different performance PCs, and find a proper criterion to match the finest performance and display quality for every computers.
