The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument for evaluating the teaching competencies of junior high school physics teachers in the physical science laboratory.
There were six junior high school physical science teachers in physics major participating in the study.
In the processes of developing the evaluation instrument ,the researcher finished the domains、elements and indicators of the necessary competencies in physical science laboratory teaching based on related literatures、questionary、 the research group discussion and examination by nine experts of science education. After setting the items of the instrument and finishing the pilot test, the study began the formal evaluation.
The reliability of evaluation data located between 0.33~0.98, and the stability of rating reliability were 0.82 and 0.78, thus the consistency and stability were acceptable.
The results of this study indicated the following characteristics of instrument :
1. evaluators had to be trained on the usage with instrument, 2. evaluators should adopt high-inference evaluation method and fill in "actual examples as evidence" as the bases for evaluation, 3. researcher could offer five implements to examine qualified teachers to meet the needs of multiple varieties of schools, 4. researcher provided a comprehensive user''''''''s manual for this instrument to users convenience.
