In this study, two types of super absorbent polymer (SAP, SAP-1, SAP-2) were used to be the main absorbent, mixed with PE thermoplastic powder as the inner materials respectively. Besides, two different mass of per unit area of nonwoven fabrics (12 g/m2 and 45 g/m2) were also used as the cover layer and the base layer. By sprinkling the powder, the mass of per unit area was maintained at 50 g/m2, then, through heating and thermal- setting to manufacture two kinds of water blocking (nonwoven) tape (WBT, WBT-1 and WBT-2). At last, we tested the physical properties of the WBT. Theswelling properties of WBT were tested under various relative humidity, temperature, and ionic concentration. Expecting the result could be a reference of WBT. From the result, it showed that the swelling heights of WBT-1 and WBT-2 under distilled water were 13.5mm and 9.0mm respectively, under artificial brine were 1mm and 0.5mm respectively. The reductions of swelling recovery were 68.2% and 16.7% respectively. The result under environmental simulations treated indicating that, the swelling speed and swelling height of WBT-1 would decrease under high relative humidity, but the swelling height of WBT-2 wouldn't be affected. In the test of thermal degrada degradation, the swelling height of WBT-1 decreases 33.3%, and 11.1% on WBT-2. In the test of swelling under different distilled water temperatures, WBT-2 has better thermal stability of absorbent than WBT-1. Under different brine concentrations, the effect on the swelling height of WBT-2 is not very obvious. The swelling height reduction between distilled water and artificial brine of WBT-1 is 3.7%, and 11.1% for WBT-2.
