ABSTRACT The petrochemistry has been an important role at economic development in Taiwan. The process in petrochemistry is complicated and existed a very high potential risk in use production, manufacturing and storage. In past registers of occupational calamity, the accident happened mainly due to peoples'' mistakes. Thus, the knowledge, attitude, and behavior of workers are very important to petrochemistry. The study is focus on the factories that are supervised by the Kaohsiung Environment protection agency as the population. In 29 random sampling factories, we got 275 effective questionnaires , 240 of them are workers and 35 are managers. We investigated their knowledge, attitude, behavior and the condition of safety and health in work environments. The results showed that the mean of knowledge score is 18.03±6.37(total score is 32) in managers and 13.06±3.24(total score is 22) in workers, are both are just to pass. The mean of attitude score is 17.34±5.41( total score is 32) in managers, 18.49±6.43 (total score is 32) in workers, both of them are positive score. Contract to the managers without license, the work unit that the managers have license have showed better knowledge and attitude score. But after Mann-Whitney U test, all the score have not significant difference. To distinguish the differences about knowledge and attitude scores, from four group factories , in which their workers were below 30, 30-99, 100-299, over 300, the factories that workers were below 30 had showed the lowest knowledge. But according to Kruskal-Wallis H test, the menagers did not have the significant difference in knowledge and attitude on the other hand, after Scheffe''s test there were significant differences between the factories below 30 workers and the others . To compare with worker,s attitude , there were significant difference between the factories below 30 workers and above 300 workers. It may be associated with that the professional mangers are existed or not.
