Of all techniques in distribution centers (DCs) , automated storage / retrieval systems (AS/RS) are a best way to solve the problems of land and man power for traditional DCs .But in Taiwan , most AS/RS are used in warehouses of factories . Their operation are simple , because their basic units are pallets and storage items are not much . Once such AS/RS been set in the DCs with the needs of "Limited Quantities , Varieties , Frequent and Speeedy Deliveries " for retailing industries , it is possible to produce one integrated problem between storage function and picking function . Owing to the storage allocation planning is the key point to solve the problem mentioned above and to reduce the time consumed by storage/retrieval machine , this study develop one model to solve these problems . This model contains four sub-model . First twosub-model can reduce the time consumed by storage/retrieval machine ,and last two sub-modelcan solve the integrated problem between storage function and picking function .
