In Taiwan, the problem of microvibration was not noted until the
highspeed trains have to pass through the well-known Tainan
Science BasedIndustrial Park. The high-tech industry,
manufacturing of semiconductors,will be the important industry
in the Tainan Science Based Industrial Park,and the work suites
have a very severe construction requirement for thevibration.
However, the running of high-speed trains induce very
impulsivemotions of short duration along the track and nearby
area. On account of thehigh-speed trains inducing vibration,
many sensitive high-tech facilitiescannot work well. Hence, how
to control the intensity of the vibration is themost important
subject. Essentially, the microvibration problem is a wave
propagation one in aninfinite domain. We would encounter the
problem of the wave reflection whenthe finite element method was
employed in the time domain. The mainpurpose of this study is to
solve the wave reflection problem in the timedomain. Two works
will be done in this study. First, the mapped infiniteelement
was added to the finite element program to analyze the problem.
Second, the ''boundary damping method'' was introduced in detail
in Section5.4. The best choice of the parameters for the
boundary damping methodwould be found. Some example problems
were solved by the boundarydamping method and displacement
diagrams at selected points were presentedin this study. From
the analyzed results in this study, we can find that the mapped
infinite element cannot avoid the wave reflection problem
effectively. Theboundary damping method gives the good solution
to the vibration of the lowfrequency; however, it may be
inaccurate for the high frequency vibration.
