AbstractKey Words: Sun Tzu, Top Management, Strategy-Restraining, CorporationWar, Competitive Advantages In this research, the researcher leaded the exploratory research of the application of Sun Tzu in the field of business management to descriptive research and casual research by means of a structural questionnaire. This research also explored Taiwanese top managers'' ways to acquire competitive advantages through the viewpoints of Sun Tzu.The research findings imply and indicate that: (1) In Taiwan, not every corporation is suited to apply the wisdom of Sun Tzu to acquire competitive advantages. The wisdom is best suited to strategy-restraining corporations in their corporation war. (2) On average, among the strategy-restraining corporations in a corporation war against competitor(s) in Taiwan, applying the wisdom of Sun Tzu can be helpful to top managers. Such an application can expand ratio and growth ratio of market share, establish effective marketing strategies, expand growth ratio of sales, and establish effective benefiting-whole-corporation strategies in his (her) corporation. (3) On average, among the strategy-restraining corporations in a corporation war against competitor(s) in Taiwan, top managers in high tech industry have thoughts and behaviors that correlate highest with the wisdom of Sun Tzu. Traditional manufacturing industry is the next and the non-financial service industry is the third highest. The financial service industry correlates least with the wisdom of Sun Tzu. (4) On average, among the strategy-restraining corporations in a corporation war against competitor(s) in Taiwan, the more competitive the industry, the more inclination a top manager has to read Sun Tzu Bing-Fa and to take advantage of espionage principle and four factors from factor analysis in these research. The four factors include win-all-without-fighting and stratagem, foresight and deliberation, scheming,and water-like formation from the wisdom of Sun Tzu.(5) On average, among the strategy-restraining corporations in a corporation war against competitor(s) in Taiwan, the performances of better-versed-in- Sun-Tzu-Bing-Fa top managers are superior to those of the ones who are not versed in Sun Tzu Bing-Fa. The aforementioned performances include ratio and growth ratio of market share, establishing effective marketing strategies, growth ratio of sales, and establishing effective benefiting-whole-corporation strategies.
