The Global Positioning System(GPS) starts commissioning in1970.It was later released to civilian applications , e.g. landresource survey, navigation and land mapping , etc.. Recently ,theGPS is becoming more popular, especially in aircraft navigationand guidance area. It can also assist the aircraft to avoid badweather effect and to fly more safely. GPS is now being appliedto auto navigation. The future wide application of GPS system tohuman life is expected. Because of these, there are manyresearchers engaged in GPS studies .Among them many are workingon GPS accurate positioning subjects. The main purpose of thepresent study in not to discuss the positioning accuracy but touse GPS signal for further unmanned aircraft autopilot. Thestudy contains two parts. The first part is to construct a realtime display system for flight monitoring . It includes a GPSreceiver and transmits the GPS positioning data and relatedflight parameters such as flight path , speed ,heading, etc.via radio transceiver to ground station monitor. It is hopedthat the design can be useful for further unmanned aerialvehicle monitoring and control. The second part of the studyis to discuss the positioning relationship between GDOP( Geometric Dilution of Precision) and a single GPS receiver. The purpose is to find a way to smooth the positioning errorsbiased by satellites signals .A smooth GPS signal will enhancea smooth and accurate controllable flight, which is veryimportant to an unmanned aerial vehicle.
