In this thesis we study the modeling, fabrication and application of chirped fiber gratings. In the theoretical side we used the couple-mode equations to simulate the effects of apodization and radiation-mode coupling. In the experiment side we have fabricated high-reflectivity chirped fiber gratings using the chirped phase mask approach. These chirped fiber gratings are then used as dispersion compensators and narrow- linewidth transmission filters. Finally, we also use fiber gratings to build tunable narrow-linewidth transmission filters. Finally, we also use fiber gratings to build tunable narrow- linewidth Er-fiber lasers.
