The TWNIC reports show that Internet is growing tremendously fast and isbecoming part of our daily life these years. In tradictional networkenvironment, network nodes move no where after been setup. But in mobilecomputing enviroment, network nodes are mobile. Since they would moveeverywhere and still connect to Internet by using wired or wireless medium.Current network protocol needs modifications. Thus, Mobile-IP is invented tosupport host mobility. Based on IETF mobile-IP, we propose a hierarchical Mobile-IP (HMIP)infrastructure and protocol. And provide an efficient IP-layer handoff andefficient routing procedure. Upon reasonable simulatin model and costparameters, the simulatin results illustrate that the registration cost ofHMIP is less than IETF Mobile-IP. And HMIP is less sensitive to network delay.For some specific application, HMIP has better routing efficiency than IETFroute optimization.
