In this thesis, we propose a practical design and implement method to build the distributed data link for a shop floor control system. First, the CIM is reviewed and the distributed data exchange mechanism is introduced. Owing to the complexity of the software architecture, the gap between the design and implementation stage is often quite large. The subject-based addressing mode is proposed. Based on this method, the modules among the system can exchange their data transparently and network independently. Moreover, a development tool and the component-oriented design method will be used in order to develop the system modules rapidly. The key contribution of this tool is to integrate general software components into a customized module by using the subject name as the glue. As a result, the complexity of the software development in the distributed data exchange system is highly reduced.
