In this thesis, the damage assessment of College of Humanities and Social Sciences building of NITHU has been carried out in response to its severe cracking phenomenon. It has been proved that the cracking is caused. By earthquake. Assessment of the building's earthquake-resisting capacity in its current state is further performed based on structural design details. Compute simulation of the structural system have been carried out using NSAT which include static loading analysis as well as earthquakwe response analysis. The earthquake of July 30, 1996 recorded by the Central Weather Bureau at TCU017 station located in HSINCHU is used in the earthquake response analysis. The reacting member forces and the story-drifts of the structure are examined based on the calculated results and regulations of the building code. Design strength of the RC members are determined in accordance with the working stress method. The results indicate that, even under the design earthquake with peak ground acceleration of 100 cm/sec, all the structural members are still within the favorable elastic range. The structural design of this building is believed to have appropriate earthquake-resisting capability.
