A novel type of cross - coupled planar microwave elliptic function filter using coupled microstrip miniaturized hairpin resonators is designed and fabricated. It is shown that the filter size is small and allows nonadjacent similar electric and magnetic couplings to be realized and adjusted. The calulation of the coupled coefficients for each of four basic coupling structures encountered in these filters is based on the calculated resonant frequencies. Four four - pole elliptic function filters are designed and fabricated. Both the theoretical and experimental results are compared.
