The principal factors influencing strength of cylindrical thin shells are geometry, boundary conditions, out of circularity and material yielding conditions. Imperfection is significant under axial loading. Boundary conditions play the major role compared to axial loading when subjected to external pressure. Stiffener also raises strength to a certain degree. The purpose of this research is probing the above-mentioned phenomenon by finite element method, and compare numerical analysis with code and classical thin shell theory. Checking results of examples by both method, it''s known that finite element analysis can estimate precisely ultimate strength of cylindrical thin shell.
