One of the major factors influencing engine emissions is the formation and accumulation of deposits in the engine by buring fuel. A feasible methodt o reduce the emissions is to use a cleaner fuel such as liquefied petroleumga s(LPG). The present research therefore focused on testing a gasoline/LPG due l-fuelspark-ignited engine at various rotating speed and loading condition s to determine the effects of LPG on engine performance and emissions. The e nginetested is GA16DE ( New Sentra ). The fuels used in the engine were unle aded gasoline grade 95 and liquefied petroleum gas(LPG)sold by the China Petro leumCompany. The emission components measured include CO ,HC and NOx . F uel consumption rate of the engine and economic benefits were also measured. The experimental results showed that significant reduction in engine em issions can be obtained by using LPG as the fuel. In general, the reducton ef fects on the emissions decrease with increasing engine load. Amounts ofemi ssion reduction range from 80% to 60% for CO, from 50% to 10% for HC, andfrom 70% to 30% for NOx, as the engine load increased from 25N-m to 75N-m.Theecono mic benefits of using LPG could be much better than of the unleadedgasoli ne, about making a 30% discount.
