噗噗熊等四部書,從米倫(Milne)於 1924到1928年寫就以來,已成為家喻
戶曉老少咸宜的古典作品。四部書已被譯為多國語言,並一直有各種文學
批評專書或論文從各角度作深入的探討。而噗噗熊和他的朋友在薛普
(Shepard)的插畫中的可愛模樣,除了被迪士尼製作成卡通深入每個家庭外,附屬的商業產品也滿足了噗噗迷對米倫的崇敬與追思。
孩子們喜歡這四部書,因為他們是書中的主角,他們能受到完完全全的尊
重,並能從閱讀中得到貼心的愉悅。這效果來自米倫的文學技巧及對兒童
、對社會、對人性的入微觀察與慈悲。正因米倫對人生的透徹與洞悉,更
加深了這四部書的文學趣味,經由趣味的體驗,孩子們會去思考及模彷書
中人物的言語和行為,也因此激發與鼓勵孩子們於現實生活中的各類發展
。米倫的人物描寫、佈景、風格加上薛普的插畫,提供了美學趣味及情感
與情緒上的統整,也因此帶領小讀者走向成熟之路,也博得大讀者歷年來
的選擇與信賴。
本論文共分六章。第一章介紹這四部書的作者、插畫者、在兒童文學上的
定位與分類、及本論文的引用理論。第二章探討米倫的文學技巧。之後引
入這四部書對兒童發展的貢獻,根據Donna E. Norton 的定義,本論文只
在第三章探討在兒童語言發展上的影響與推進;於第四章探討在兒童人格
發展上的影響與導正。第五章根據Andrew S. Winston 對情感及情緒要素
的定義,探討這四部書能經由引起情緒的體認與情感的共鳴,且在米倫及薛普的美學趣味下,達到更成熟、更統合、更中庸、更超然、更達觀的人生。第六章為本論文結論。
The Pooh books, written by A.A. Milne, have been attractive to readers of all ages since their first publication in 1924. They have been translated worldwide and professionally discussed while the illustrations are commercially developed as video programs and various Pooh goods to comfort the Pooh fans. Milne''s literary techniques and his keen observations of children, of his society, and of human nature, make the Pooh forest benevolent and fun. It is an enchanted world centered on children but extends to all human beings.
Sympathizing by means of the aesthetic pleasure of the Pooh books, children may imitate and rethink the dialogues and actions between the characters and further develop their adjustment to real life. Actually Milne''s descriptions and Shepard''s illustrations provide not only aesthetic pleasures and psychological balance but also a way for children to become more mature and for adults to lead their children.
My thesis divides into six chapters. In Chapter I, children and their literature in the 19th and early 20th century, Milne''s background, and Shepard''s illustrations are introduced. Also fantasy, domestic pastoral fantasy, Donna E. Norton''s child development theory, and Andrew S. Winston''s sentimental themes are introduced in order to Support that the Pooh books can promote children in a delightful way.
In Chapter II, Milne''s literary techniques are discussed. Then, according to Norton''s schema, I suggest that the Pooh books are helpful in children''s language development in Chapter III and in children''s personality development in Chapter IV. In Chapter V, I discuss Winston''s sentimental themes in the Pooh books and suggest that the Pooh books, through aesthetic pleasures and tender feelings, extend beyond sentimentality to become a way for integration and interaction proper to full maturity. Chapter VI is my conclusion.
