The objective of this project was to study the sorption behavior between metal (Cd,Pb) and various sorbents at different thermal treatment temperatures and for various durations. Leaching procedure for solid waste were used to evaluate the effectiveness of thermal treatment. Some samples were examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD) technique. For Cd-doped sorbents, the results indicated that kaolinite was the most effective sorbent to capture Cd, comparing with Al2O3 and SiO2. Cd leaching value decreased as temperatures and/or durations increased. The Cd capture effectiveness by Al2O3 and SiO2 outran each other depending on thermal treatment temperatures and durations. For Pb- and Cd-doped sorbents, Al2O3 and SiO2 had higher effectiveness to capture Pb than to capture Cd. Kaolinite had higher effectiveness to capture Cd than to capture Pb. Sequential extraction results showed that the mobilization of Cd and Pb in Al2O3 decreased after thermal treatment.
