The purpose of this study is to conduct research on the process of Chinese diplomatic implementation of its three major tasks for the 1980s, "Anti-hegemonism, Reunification, and Four modernizations" proposed by Deng Xiao-Ping. This study is mainly based on historical and official documents to conduct a strategical analysis in the form of the modern grand strategy of the Deng Xiao-Ping era, so as to establish socialism with Chinese characteristics. The abstract of the chapters are as follows: The introduction includes purpose, motive, methods. forms, scope, and limitations of this research. Chapter One, the basic concept of the diplomatic strategy, explains basic concepts concerning deplomatic strategies under the modern grand strategy, and the nature of Chinese diplomatic policies and strategies. Chapter Two, the analysis on the background of Chinese deplomatic strategies, analyzes its diplomatic background regarding ideology, national interests, internal political and econoimic environments, and internatuional environments. Chapter Three, concerns and analysis on the formation of Deng Xiao-ping strategical ideology and his global view of peaceful development, so as to undrstand his strategical ideo;ogy as to national development and national security. Chapter Four, Chinese deplomatic strategy in Deng Xiao-ping era, is a follow-up analysis of Chapter Three, This chapter explains how DEng Xiao-Ping gradually developed hsi ideas of an opening strategy, "one country, two systems" strategy, and independent strategy, and made them the guiding force of Chinese foreign policy at that time in accoudance with the three major tasks for the 1980s. The conclusion is according to this research, Chinese had carried out an opening strategy to acquire foreign capital and technologies needed for the construction of the " four modernizations, to adopt" one country, two systems" strategy for the sake of national security and the goal of national reunification, and to adhere to the strategy of anti-hegemonism and peaceful co-existence in order to consolidate its position as a major power in East Asia and safeguard its role as one of the major powers in the world.
