本文提出主渠近橋段採取漸變段設計的構想，以實驗的方法比較漸變段的存在與否，橋台沖刷的變化情形。並針對實驗所得梯形渠道橋台最大沖刷深度跟前人在矩形渠道中所做的實驗比較，可得下列幾點結果：
1. 近橋段由於橋台的存在所以通水面積減少，因此產生局部加速，局部沖刷因應產生，如果近橋段採取漸變段設計，則由測得的數據顯示上下游表面流速減慢5.1％~16.4％不等；在最大沖刷深度部分則減少47.4%~61.5%；可以看出漸變段的存在對橋台沖刷有相當大的改善。
2. 由本實驗所得的梯形渠道橋台最大沖刷深度，跟前人在矩形渠道中所做之實驗比較，可以發現在相同的水流強度及 下，梯形渠道 值大於矩形渠道約0.8％~31.1％。

This research proposes to use a main channel transitional section in front of and behind a bridge abutment to avoid the abutment local scour. Experiments are conducted in a 20x1.1x0.3 m trapezoidal flume with or without this transition to obtain local scour, water level and surface velocity data. These data are compared to examine this proposal.
The experimental data show that the flow accelerates at approaching section near a bridge. If there is a transition, the surface velocities upstream and downstream the bridge reduce by 5.1%~16.4%, and the maximum local scour depths reduce by 47.4%~61.5%. The water surface drawdown caused by the flow acceleration also decreases. The existence of the transitions improves greatly the abutment from being scoured. Further investigations show that the maximum local scour depth at abutment of trapezoidal channel is 0.8%~31.1% greater than that of rectangular channel, under the same flow intensity and h/L, D*/L conditions.
