非水相液體(NAPL)存在於污染場址時，因為物化特性的關係，蒸氣壓較大的有機物會揮發至未飽和層，可溶性有機物則會溶解於地下水，污染團會隨著地下水移動，擴大污染範圍。NAPL的存在，使其可以持續性的釋放出有機污染物，污染土壤及地下水。因此，在進行污染場址調查時，確認NAPL是否存在與其分布之範圍為一重要的工作。及早回收NAPL之工作影響後續整治工作的成敗。
本研究根據土壤TPH-d分析結果與監測井NAPL觀測結果相互比對，了解土壤TPH-d的含量與NAPL存在與否之關係。其結果顯示，當土壤的TPH含量大於10,000 時，可以據此判斷土壤採樣位置附近有NAPL存在的機率高達87%。
