The thesis will do a research upon a literary critic, “Jin Sheng Ta''n”金聖嘆 who devote all his life to P''ing-Tien(make notes and interpret)評點 “Books of Masters”才子書. It also aims at finding how a traditional literary man tries to adjust himself and converse his reading interests from old classics to novels── an arising about literary institution and boundary encountered by Jin in his lifelong career will also be discussed. An investigation upon Jin''s changing reading taste will first be made to pay the way for an retrospective review on the development of denotation and interpretation of old classics── a movement of institution-building for literature comment which aims to improve writing skill, be it in technical or in spiritual aspect. Next, the marginal notes and interlinear two—line commentaries, which are seen beside(within)the text, will be regarded as a particular expression form and further talked in the thesis. In interpreting the “Reading Theory” of Jin Sheng T''an, Structuralism is widely cited explain special language used upon from certain objects. We may found the antithesis is the main principles in his all commentaries. Moreover, the distinctive sense is some appreciation keeps on spreading out. It crosses the boundary of different literature styles, and can be applied in lyric or narrative. It is symmetric belong to the classical aesthetics, and stays in the depth of consciousness. Beyond any evidence, it is unique and helps to make the tone of commentators authoritative.
