超低頻電漿波是地球磁層普遍存在的現象。本研究主要目的在於發展曲線場線座標系統來處理任意磁層磁場結構,以及建立磁流體波在地球磁層傳播的物理模式與數值方法。
從磁流體力學推導出磁流體波在不均勻電漿中之傳播方程式,然後於曲線場線座標處理磁流體波動方程。利用數值方法,以初始與邊界問題來模擬箱形模式及磁偶極模式下,磁流體波於磁層結構中的傳播。而對非偶極場之磁層磁場結構,我們則發展了一套場線座標與數值網格點,和運算標量因子之方法。

Ultra-low frequency ( ULF ) plasma waves are persistent phenomena of the magnetosphere. The purpose of this dissertation is to develop the curvilinear field-line coordinates for an arbitrary magnetospheric magnetic field geometry and to model the magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) wave
propagation in Earth’s magnetosphere. The linear MHD equations are solved numerically and applied to study
the wave propagation in both box and dipole field models.
For nondipole field geometries, we have developed a scheme
of generating the numerical grids and the corresponding
scale factors.
