本文利用三個百分位數之線性組合函數，極其最小漸近變異數方法，求得對稱分布族之位置參數的有效穩健估計量。Tiku and Suresh (1992)雖然提出有效性極佳的修正後最大概似估計量（modified maximum likelihood estimator），但計算複雜，且必須得知模型的確實分佈。而Gastwirth（1966）針對四種分布族（常態分布，羅吉斯分布，柯西分布，雙指數分布），提出一個有效且穩健的位置參數估計量；我們在本文中，用簡單的最小漸近變異數法，一得出和Gastwirth一樣的估計量。
