在行動通訊中,行動者將經常性地進入或離開網路,因此他們不斷地改變位置 。行動環境中位置管理是一個保持追蹤網路中行動者位址的程序。過去提出的的協定是利用搜尋及更新的搭配。這些協定的缺點是不能在每一種通訊及行動模式下都得到相同的快速效率。我們工作的目標在於發展一種新的可執行位置管理方略,著重於網路成本的降低。
我們做了一重要的觀察─可能跟行動者通訊的人也許很多;但經常和行動者通訊的人卻很少。基於這個觀察,我們提出一個“更新集合”的觀念。在這個方略中,搜尋的時間將大量減少但無庸置疑地它會帶來更新成本的增加。所以,我們也發展一種“位置階層 ”的觀念來加強這一部份。同時在本論文中,資訊分享也將被適時的利用。

In mobile environments, a mobile host (MH) will frequently attach to and detach from the network, thus it changes its address frequently. Location management in mobile environments refers to the process of keeping track of the current address of mobile hosts in the network. Protocols proposed for mobile environments are not uniformly efficient over all possible call-to-mobility ratios. The aim of this work is to explore a new and practical scheme for location management, with emphasis on network cost reduction.
We make the key observation that while the potential set of source for the MH may be large, the set of source that given MH communicates most frequently with is limited. Based on this, we develop a concept of updating set of hosts for a MH. We adopt updating set of the source list (in which they contact with the MH frequently) in per-user profiles to reduce searching cost, but this may increase updating cost. So we develop another concept of “ location class “ to solve it. In this strategy, we also address that how the location information of MHs can be shared .An Intelligent scheme of location management is proposed, that enables a MH to dynamically determine its updating set, location class, share the location information with other MHs under the same location server. The simulation results and mathematical analysis are shown the benefit of the intelligent scheme.
