This study was based on Super''s Life-span, Life-space theory. Gender, grade, curriculum and socioeconomic status differences in career maturity and the importance of life roles were investigated. The relationship between career maturity and the importance of life roles was also examined in this study. There were 1085 fourth and fifth grade junior college students selected randomly to participate in this study. All the participants completed Career Development Scale for College Students and the translated Salience Inventory. Data were analyzed with MANOVA, ANOVA with repeated measures and Pearson''s product-moment correlation. The results of this study were as following:1.Gender differences in career maturity were found. Female students scored higher than male students on decision-making and self-awareness. Gender differences in the importance of life roles were also found. Male students scored higher than female students on participation in work and leisure. Female students scored higher than male students on (1) participation in home, (2) commitment to home, study and community, and (3) value expectations in home, study and community.2.MANOVA revealed there was grade difference in career maturity, but no grade difference was found in any dimension of career maturity in further ANOVA. There was no grade difference in the importance of life roles.3.No curriculum difference was found in career maturity and the importance of life roles.4.No socioeconomic status difference was found in career maturity and the importance of life roles.5.Among five life roles, leisure role was the salience role on participation and commitment, and work role was the salience role on value expectations.6.Career maturity was related to the importance of life roles. Three correlation patterns were found. First, the correlations between career maturity and participation had less signifcant positive correlations than those between career maturity and commitment and value expectations. Second, among the five dimensions of career maturity, the correlations between career-planning and the importance of life roles were the strongest, followed by self-awareness, career-belief, decision-making and world of work knowledge. Last, among five life roles, the correlations between study and career maturity were the strongest, followed by work, community, home and leisure.Based on the above results, discussions and implications were provided for practice and future research.
