本研究旨在了解個案班級學生在國中生物科的學習動機類型與影響因素，並探討學生們對個案教師教學現況引起學習動機的知覺。研究者與個案教師進一步組成研究小組以合作學習設計生物教學單元，探討合作學習對學生學習動機的影響。
研究中採用詮釋研究法之「質的研究」與合作式行動研究，在個案教師的教室中持續一學期的觀察與紀錄，並組成研究小組以合作學習的教學策略設計生物教學單元。設計生物學習動機問卷與量表以了解個案班級學生學習動機類型與影響因素；設計合作學習的"心路歷程"問卷以探討合作學習個案班級學生學習動機的影響，並對個案教師與學生進行深入訪談。以分析的歸納（analytic induction）、持續比較法（constant comparison）、及三角檢核（triangulation）進行資料的分析與歸納。
研究結果發現個案班級學生在四種學習動機類型裡，大多數的學生為"不穩定的學習動機"，受到內在與外在因素的影響。學生對個案教師教學現況有多樣的知覺，顯示從學生角度看教學與學習提供教師反省與回饋的機會。合作學習對學習動機有相當複雜的影響，個案班級學生普遍地認同合作學習能夠增進學習動機，提高學習生物的效果。
學生學習生物的學習動機隨著內在與外在多樣的學習情境而發生變動，身為一位生物教師應充分了解學生知覺、運用適當的教學策略以增進學生的學習動機。

The purpose of this study was to realize student motivation to learn biology from students’ perception of two case classes, and to investigate the effects of cooperative learning on student motivation to learn biology in junior high school.
This study adopted the qualitative research and collaborative action research, to conduct a longitudinal study of classroom observations and records for one semester. We formed the research group to design biology instructional units according to cooperative learning. Data were collected by classroom observations, questionnaires, interviews, and documents collection. The scale of motivation to learn biology was used as one of the tools to investigate students’ motivation to learn in the biology subject. Analytic induction, constant comparison, and triangulation were to form the findings.
The findings of the study showed that most of the students in the case classes belonged to inconsistent motivation to learn, one of four patterns of student motivation to learn. Intrinsic and extrinsic factors affected these students. The students had multiple perceptions about the teacher’s present teaching, also showed that it would provide the teachers with opportunities to reflect and feedback from the views of the students on teaching and learning. Cooperative learning had complex effects on motivation to learn. The students of the case classes generally approved of cooperative learning that could increase motivation to learn, promote the effects of learning biology.
Student motivation to learn biology was changed by intrinsic and extrinsic learning situation. To be a biology teacher, he or she should understand the students’ perceptions thoroughly, and make use of the appropriate instruction strategies to enhance student motivation to learn.
