Title of Thesis:A Study on Relationships among Control, Conflict Management and Satisfaction in International Joint Venture. Name of Institute: Providence University Graduate Institute of Business Administration Name of Student: Huey-Yi Chen Graduate Date: June 1999 Abstract: International joint ventures are critical to the internationalization of Taiwanese businesses and managerial diversification. In order to effectively exploit the economic values to IJV, cross-country operations and value-added chain activitie have to be effectively coordinated and integrated. So we need a well-designed conflict management mechanism and control mechanism. This study will exam-ine the relationships between the control mechanism, conflict management with the parents'' satisfaction to IJV. Control mechanism include decision-making pro-cedures, allocation of equity share, and bargaining power. Conflict management will be dealt through both formal and informal channels. The samples in this study are targeted toward Taiwanese companies which provide capital to setup an IJV in Taiwan approved by the Investment Commission of the Ministry of Economic Affairs with a foreign partner. Fifty companies were in our final set. Statistical analyses include descriptive analysis, item analysis, analysis of variance, and Lisrel model analysis. The Lisrel model is used to analyze the influence of control mechanism and conflict management on the parents'' satisfaction to IJV. The results of this study: 1. There are significantly correlated between control mechanism and the parents'' satisfaction to IJV . The more power the venture partner has in the decision-making procedures , and bargaining power in the JV, the partner is found to be more satisfied to IJV. 2. There are significantly correlated between conflict management mechanism and the parents'' satisfaction to IJV. More IJV''s satisfaction can also be perceived by the IJV if the venture partner frequently uses informal or horizontal cooperation toward the IJV.
