As the information appliance and home network is more and more popular, users may store their important data to an external hard disk directly. It is possible that there are a number of information appliances outside to be connected to a home network or a local network and access a common storage device. This new trend initiates a new framework that allows all the devices to access to a hard disk without going through a PC anywhere.
This thesis is intended to provide an architecture for agent-based storage system. The system has the features of platform independent, plug-and-play, server simplifying, and easy to use. For the reason, the information at different platforms can be backup there. The service can be used immediately if already join the system. And users can easily access the information. We implement the architecture to express our idea, and the result is shown for improvements that enable future practical applications.
