Constrained by limited resources, small and medium enterprises (SMEs)in Taiwan increasingly perceive the importance of appropriate technology acquisition mode to their strategic objectives. This paper identifies three sets of factors which are expected to influence the choice of technology acquisition mode, i.e.,(1)firm-specific factors,(2)technology -specific factors, and(3)CEO characteristics. By using Logit Regression Model to empirically analyze 142 manufacturing SMEs in Taiwan, findings of this research indicate that technology-specific factors have more significant influence on the choice of technology acquisition mode than those of firm-specific factors and CEO characteristics. Complication of technology, tacitness of technology, and firm’s R&D intensity are the three most pronounced influencing factors for the modes of firm’s technology acquisition.
