Abstract
This paper reports of a quantitative study that examines the relationship between of design-manufacturing integration (DMI) practices and success meeting goals of product flexibility capability. Results of a mail survey to manufacturing engineering managers that different DMI practices tends to facilitate different goals. DMI mechanisms was discussed at three dimensions, the organizational level, the group level, and the technical level. Product flexibility capability was divided into three distinct types named product range, product mobility and product uniformity flexibility.
This research use multiple regression model to analyze the effects of DMI on the product flexibility capability based on the data collected from 31 mother board manufacturing firms. Our findings are as follows: 1.the degree of using DFA/DFM training is significantly positive associated with product range flexibility; 2.the degree of using DFA/DFM training, CAD/CAM are significantly positive associated with product mobility flexibility. 3.the degree of using CAD/CAM are significantly positive associated with product uniformity flexibility.
Keywords: design-manufacturing integration (DMI), concurrent engineering (CE), product flexibility capability.
