高黎貢山剪切帶位於東喜馬拉雅構造體系(eastern Himalayan syntaxis)與紅河 - 哀牢山剪切帶間,為一南北向的右移剪切帶,其活動歷史對東亞地區的地體演化解釋,有著相當重要的地位。本研究採集剪切帶內的糜嶺岩化片麻岩及花崗岩質的小型侵入脈體,利用40Ar/39Ar雷射與傳統階段加溫定年法,配合石榴子石 - 黑雲母地質溫度計、鉀長石多重擴散區間理論模擬,探討高黎貢山剪切帶的右移活動時間,以期對東南亞新生代以來之地體構造演化有進一步的了解。
研究結果顯示,高黎貢山變質岩體曾經歷變質溫度在500 oC以上的變質作用,此變質作用將多數40Ar/39Ar定年礦物中的同位素系統重置,使得礦物紀錄著剪切活動時間。綜合定年結果,高黎貢山剪切帶的右移活動發生在17 - 9 Ma間,而且右移活動在剪切帶的不同部分可能有不等時的現象,此外,由鉀長石多重擴散區間模擬的冷卻歷史可以觀察到,高黎貢山變質岩體的大規模剝蝕抬昇發生於剪切活動的晚期,均由地溫接近200 - 250 oC處快速剝蝕抬昇至近地表,可能是剪切作用進行一段時間後才造成有效的的變質岩體抬昇。
經由本研究工作可以知道,高黎貢山剪切帶的活動時間明顯晚於紅河-哀牢山剪切帶的左移活動時間(27~17 Ma, Wang et al.,1998),因此高黎貢山剪切帶之右移剪切作用並不是紅河-哀牢山剪切帶左移時所伴隨產生的共軛斷層活動,亦非中南半島向東南脫逸時的西界。反之,與緬甸境內Sagaing剪切帶在活動時間上似有重疊之處,若將兩者的活動時間、方式及相對地理位置配合考慮,高黎貢山剪切帶有可能是Sagaing剪切帶的北延分支。
綜合東亞地區各地體構造的活動時間及相關研究比較顯示,高黎貢山剪切帶的形成可能和中南半島沿紅河 - 哀牢山剪切帶向東南脫逸的活動停止後,塊體的順時針轉動有關,而此塊體旋轉的東界有可能為仙水河斷層,西界則可能是高黎貢山剪切帶與Sagaing剪切帶。
