論文摘要
任何組織均包括兩種屬性:一為經濟屬性,一為社會屬性。既往的管理理論,偏重前者,習於策略(Strategy)、結構(Structure)及制度(System)的舖陳。「社會資本」論則由組織社會屬性-網路結構、關係與組織行為-推演新世代的管理典範:宗旨(Purpose)、人本(People)及流程(Process)。
社會資本由網路結構、關係及組織行為三個構面組成。其間的位階可以對應於ERG理論的三階核心需求-existence,relatedness及growth。
社會資本有助於組織知識創造與分享,進而促進智慧資本的創建。隨著科技進步,管理組織扁平化,企業關係由網路取代階級,社會資本對於組織的重要性亦與時俱進。在網路經濟時代,組織虛擬化的傾向益發彰顯了「社會資本」說作為管理新典範的合理性。
鑒於社會資本與智慧資本相生相成,社會資本無疑是衡量組織價值新型的標竿。由本研究對象的懸殊智慧資本差異,推論落後者(西公司)宜在社會資本相關的維繫與發展上作更大的投入。

Title: Social Capital At Work -- The Practice And The Implications
The economic and the social attributes are the basic building blocks of any organizations. There have been many studies done on the economic attribute. Specifically, the strategy, structure, and system are some of the most popular subjects studied. Recently however, we have witnessed the coming of a new wave of interests on the social attribute. This attribute, namely what we call social capital, is core to the new paradigm in management: purpose, people, and process.
The structural, relational, and the organization behavior dimensions of social capital are parallel to the existence, relatedness and growth needs of the ERG theory. From a practitioner''s point of view, social capital helps facilitate the creation and the sharing of knowledge in an organization. It also lays the groundwork for building intellectual capital. With the de-layering effect observed in today''s technology-driven environment, social capital is becoming increasingly important for establishing a sound and reliable relational network for the exchange of knowledge and experiences. Furthermore, social capital is essential for effective communication and management in the virtual organizations created by the Web Economy.
Given the association of social capital and intellectual capital, the author believes that social capital will become the benchmark in measuring the performance of organizations. It should be closely monitored as it not only affects the short term profitability but also the long term sustainability of the business operations.
