在有極大頻寬的光纖上使用分波多工的技巧,可以同時使用多條平行的高速通道去傳送資料,但由於能使用的波長是有限的,因此更藉由波長再利用的方法去增加網路的資料的傳輸率。基於這樣的特點,SWRP的通訊協定被提出。
SWRP是一種以分波多工(WDM)與波長再利用(Channel Reusing)為基礎,所提出的一種網路通訊協定。雖然SWRP已經大大的提升了網路上的資料傳輸率,但可以發現的是,在SWRP每次的預約請求裡,有許多空的時槽是沒有在傳送資料的,所以如何充分利用這些空的時槽去傳送資料是一個很重要的議題。在本篇論文中我們指出這樣一個問題所在,並提出一種名為SSP的演算法。這樣的演算法使得這些空的時槽也能被使用去傳送資料,藉以更增加網路上的資料傳輸率。模擬的結果證明了,高負載時SSP擁有比SWRP更高的資料傳輸率。

By using WDM technology, we can transmit data over multiple channels on optical network. However, the number of wavelength is limited on WDM network. We can use the method of channel reusing to increase the throughput of the network.
SWRP is a protocol based on WDM and Channel reusing scheme. Although SWRP has already made a great improvement of the data transmission rate, but there are still some wasted slots in this protocol. That is, when SWRP request slot reservation to transmit data, there are some empty slots in the reservation. In this paper, we point out the weakness of SWRP protocol, and propose a SSP algorithm. In this protocol, we can make use of empty slots. In addition, it can also improve the data transmission rate. The performance of the proposed protocol is evaluated by simulation and the results show that SSP obtains an improved performance when traffic load is heavy.
