PMMA/NMP/H2O的溶液中可以經由相分離後高分子富相vitrification產生gelation。由熱分析及流變儀的結果發現,gelation會在Gelation Boundary之前發生。由黏彈性質變化來決定的Gelation line與影響膜結構的組成有一致性,顯示對成膜機制而言,Gelation line的影響很大。
Gelation line在高濃度時幾乎和binodal curve重疊,表示在高濃度時gelation和相分離關係很密切,這種現象發生的機制可能是因為相分離後高分子貧相周圍的高分子富相組成,因為高黏度而產生partial vitrification所導致。
PMMA/NMP的溶液中添加H2O可以抑制巨型孔洞的發生,添加至gelation產生則能完全抑制巨型孔洞的發生,而從FT-IR microscopy的觀察發現,產生gelation能阻擋非溶劑的擴散,顯示gelation的發生在成膜過程中具有固化膜結構的效果。
Gelation in PMMA/NMP/H2O system was investigated in the present work. From thermal analysis and shear-modulus measurement, we found that the vitrification temperature is lower than the gelation temperature, indicating that gelation appear before vitrification. It was also found that the appearance of gelation is strongly related to the change of membrane structure, suggesting that gelation play an important role in membrane formation.
The gelation line appears to be very close to the binodal curve in phase diagram. It has been reported that gelation could occur due to the vitrification of polymer-rich phase after liquid-liquid demixing. However, according to the theoretical calculation, the composition of the polymer-rich phase is not in the vitrification region yet. A possible mechanism is that, because of the high viscosity of polymer solution, phase separation occurs non-uniformly and local vitrification induces the gelation process.
It was found that addition of enough water in PMMA/NMP solution could suppress the macrovoids in PMMA membranes, and the composition is close to the gelation composition. On basis of the measurement by FT-IR microscopy, the occurrence of gelation can inhibit the water penetration rate into polymer solution, which can account for the solidification of membrane structure.
