The steel shear panel made of LYP steel shear panel is able to absorb and dissipate seismic energy and has been used in the construction of new buildings. This research work adopted the LYP shear panel to enhance the seismic resistance capacity of existing reinforced concrete building structures.The xperimental studies include four RC frames to examine the characteristics of stiffness, strength and energy dissipation capacity of original frame and the retrofitted frames. The following are the findings from this study. (1)The LYP steel shear panel is able to increase the stiffness, strength, and energy dissipation capacity to 6~7, 1.7~2.5, 6.2~8.1 times larger than the original frame, respectively. (2)The construction of LYP shear panel is simple, cost effective, and the interruption to the function of the building is very limited. (3)The experimental results clearly demonstrated that the LYP shear panel is able to provide stable and reliable energy dissipation capacity and can be used as a seismic damper.
