Abstract: This research evaluates the designs and managements of the evacuation routes in general hotels by different methods and actual investigations of The Building Center of Japan . Also it discusses the factors affect the evacuative safety. So that , it can be served as a reference for other researches in this field and for future construction plannings. This research includes 6 chapters. The first chapter-“Introduction” expounds the considerations, purposes, and expected achievements. Simultaneously, it defines the scope of the thesis. The second chapter establishes the survey methods and contents by all the related papers. It also expounds the damages caused by fire, the characteristics of buman evacuation, and the evaluation methods adopted by The Building Center of Japan. The third chapter describes the lawful situation of gerneral hotels in field public safety. Besides, it sorts the case studies of fires in Taiwan. Basing on these information and analyes it, predicts the problems of evacuation,and establishes the direction of this thesis. The fourth chapter interpret the evaluation methods of the evacuation routes in general hotels. It includes the methods adopted by The Building Center of Japan, and the evaluations on “Two direction evacuation”, “Safety compartmentation”, “Curved routes”, “The entirety”. All the above-mentioned establish the items and methods of the fifth chapter. It analyzes the investigations results, including the building years of hotels, the types of management, usage, the routes, the internal stairs and the relations. In addition, it discusses the relations. Finally, the sixth chapter offers the conclusions. It makes the suggestions on the designs of evacuation routes, the managements of evacuation routes, and the improvements of the existing evacuation routes.
