本研究提出高功能自閉症患者早期發展中理解他人意圖能力缺陷的假說,以生理年齡40-60個月的高功能自閉症兒童為主要對象,並選取生理年齡、發展年齡相當的發展遲緩兒童為配對組,生理年齡在29-35個月以及35-41個月的正常發展兒童為控制組。
本研究採用Meltzoff(1995)實驗設計,在計分上兼採兩個行為的計分策略(two-action scoring strategy)與20秒內的行為表現,研究結果發現:不論採取上述哪一種計分策略,高功能自閉症兒童在理解他人意圖能力的表現並未明顯低於其他三組。
綜合來說,本研究發現高功能自閉症兒童已具備理解他人意圖的能力,後續的研究宜設計不同複雜程度意圖能力作業,以進一步澄清意圖能力的發展機制。
